LAHORE - PML-Q Punjab President Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has asked the United States to handover drone technology to Pakistan, saying Indian domination in the region would not be accepted at any cost.
Talking to media men after holding talks with US senators delegation including Jeanne Shaheen, Kay Hagan, Mark Begich, Mark Udall and Thomas R Carper here on Monday at his residence, former Chief Minister Punjab said that the delegation has been told that there will be no compromise over Pakistan’s integrity and sovereignty. He said that the PML-Q leadership asked the US delegation to allocate substantial package for IDPs. “The US delegation has been told that if they want to see Pakistan successful in war on terror then hearts and minds of people should be won,” he added. He demanded the US government immediate release of Dr Aafia Sidique imprisoned in American jail for taking nothing-illegal step.
He said the government understood better the ground realities than America and the US government should provide drone technology to Pakistan instead of carrying out drone attacks inside Pakistan.
Talking about Swat operation, he said that it is our own issue and there was insurgency in the name of Islam and All Parties Conference supported it. He said the terrorists were demoralizing Islam by showing rigidity in religion, cutting throats of men, beating women and practicing nefarious activities in Malakand and troubled Swat.
Pervaiz Elahi said that the lingering issue of Kashmir was also discussed and PML-Q has recalled the statement of US President Barack Obama on Kashmir issue.
He said that the Indian domination would not be acceptable in the region.
“We are able to distinguish our friends and enemies so there is no need to dictate us in our national policies and issues.”

LAHORE: President Pakistan Muslim League (PML-Q) Chaudhary Shujaat Hussain has said that there is no need to convene another All Party Conference on Swat operation and those who are not supporting military offensive against militants lack national thinking.

Talibanization was increasing and we have to set aside differences and get united in the current circumstances, he said this while talking to media men on Friday after condoling with family of Major Abid who embraced Shahdat in operation Rahe-e-Rast.

The President PML-Q went on to say his Party would announce its strategy with regard to Swat operation.

Answering to a question, the President PML-Q said, unfortunately internally displaced people are facing food shortage and other inconvenience in their own homes and they should not be called as refuges because they are living in their homes.

He asked the nation to help IDPs whole-heartedly because they have sacrificed for Pakistan’s better future. Our priority should be national interest instead of personnel, he said. We can overcome current crises through joint efforts, Shujaat said. He said the nation is helping IDPs more than Government. We have to get united to steer country out of crises, he urged.

When asked about Balochistan, he said, the issue of Balochistan should be resolved immediately and it is turning bad to worse with each passing day. We have proposed an APC on Balochistan issue and Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has promised to convene, he said.

President PML-Q Ch. Shujaat Hussain when asked about Pakistan’s nukes said the nuclear arsenal in safe hands. No one can take over Pakistan, he said.

ISLAMABAD,: PML-Q leader and former Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi on Thursday welcomed the government decision to hold a briefing for all the parliamentary party leaders of National Assembly over Swat operation, saying its ‘better late than never’. Talking to the journalists here at the Parliament House, the opposition member said this was a good decision taken by the government to take all the political parties onboard over the Swat operation.

However, he opined that the decision to convene an All Parties’ Conference (APC) was a bit late. In my view, this is a delayed decision and this moot of national significance should have been held even before the cabinet meeting, he added.

Over the issue of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), Elahi said this was the biggest displacement of the country’s history and to meet this huge challenge, the nation would have to revive its spirit to help the needy and affected which was expressed after the earthquake of 2005.

“The PML-Q has constituted its relief fund with initial amount of Rs. two million while the PML-Q provincial chief Amir Muqam is looking after the affairs at PML-Q relief camps established in NWFP,” he added.

Elahi urged the Uelma and religious scholars to work vigorously to promote the true teachings of Islam. He said the Ulema should also work for peace and launch joint efforts for the awareness of general public about the perpetrators who had badly damaged the image of Islam and had created law and order situation in Fata and Malakand division.
