ISLAMABAD: The PML-Q on Thursday announced to defy the ban on the entry of the internally displaced persons (IDPs) into the Punjab.

“The restriction of the Punjab government on the movement of the IDPs in the Punjab is illegal and would not be accepted,” said Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, central leader of the PML-Q, while addressing a press conference here on Thursday.

He was flanked by party Secretary General Mushahid Hussain Sayed, Engineer Amir Muqam, Ghulam Sarwar Khan and other leaders of the PML-Q. Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi said rather than providing relief to the IDPs, the Punjab government has directed all the SHOs in the province not to allow the entry of the IDPs into the Punjab. “This act has exposed the double face of the provincial government of the Punjab,” he added.

He said the IDPs had sacrificed their hearths and homes for the safety of the people and stability of the country. “We stand by our brothers and sisters from Swat and Malakand and will make all out efforts to provide them relief,” he added.

He warned that his party would not allow the provincial government to stop the IDPs’ entry into the Punjab. “We will establish a relief camp at Attock to cater to the needs of 5,000 families,” he announced.

He also appealed to all the district Nazims of the Punjab to send relief goods to IDPs.He said the PML-Q had so far distributed relief goods to the IDPs worth about Rs 20 million and the relief work was still continuing.

Elahi said it was the PML-Q that came forward to serve the IDPs despite security threats. Speaking on the occasion, Engineer Amir Muqam asked the government to formulate a comprehensive strategy for the relief and rehabilitation of the IDPs. “It is time to win the hearts of people rather than taking political mileage out of their distress,” he added.

He suggested to the government that rather than keeping the IDPs into the relief camps, they should be lodged in public buildings. He said the funds that were being taken in the name of the IDPs should be utilised for their welfare.

Secretary General Mushahid Hussain said Pervaiz Elahi proved that whether he was in government or out of it he always stood with the people of Pakistan. He condemned as ‘unfortunate’ the resistance shown by the Punjab and Sindh governments towards the entry of the IDPs, saying that it was tantamount to dividing the nation. “All the IDPs are Pakistanis and they can go wherever they want to go,” he said.

He said the PML has been actively supporting the IDPs and it has also established a Mobile Medical Camp for the IDPs and party leaders Amir Muqam and Mushtaq Ghani were working vigorously to assist the IDPs.

Mushahid Hussain said his party had distributed relief goods worth Rs 15 million among the IDPs of Swat and Malakand Division while on the other hand the government was adopting “bureaucratic attitude” towards the IDPs.

Later, the party leaders distributed 10,000 fans, 10,000 water coolers, and 10,000 packets of relief goods including atta, ghee, sugar, pulses and other edible items among the IDPs from Swat and other parts of Malakand Division.

ISLAMABAD: PML-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain on Tuesday said the military operation in the Malakand Division aimed at saving the Pakistan’s territorial integrity and his party fully backed it.

“Pakistan is passing through a critical juncture today. During the recent All Parties Conference (APC), some politicians tried to adopt a double policy on the operation. I think those politicians should shun such tendencies, as these would serve no purpose for the country’s cause,” Shujaat said this while talking to the IDPs at the relief camps established at Mardan and Takhtbhai prior to distributing the relief goods among the affected people.

Shujaat said the entire nation was indebted to the inhabitants of Swat and Malakand who had rendered valuable sacrifices to save the entire nation from the menace of terrorism. “These IDPs can go anywhere they wish as the entire country is their home and they do not need any passport to do so. You have made sacrifices for the people of Pakistan and have left your homes and valuables. You are living here in the open in such harsh conditions and we would remember your sacrifices,” he added.

PML-Q Secretary-General Mushahid Hussain Syed called for making the distribution of relief goods among the affectees transparent, saying that such an important task should have been given priority.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) President Shujaat Hussain on Tuesday called for a “comprehensive strategy” to rehabilitate the internally displaced persons (IDPs) of Malakand division. Shujaat urged the political leaders of Pakistan to immediately halt all normal activities and work for the rehabilitation of the IDPs on “war footing”. “

Let us shun the politics of lust for power and shift the focus on the rehabilitation efforts for millions of IDPs of Swat.” he said. staff report

ISLAMABAD,: PML-Q leader and former Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi on Thursday welcomed the government decision to hold a briefing for all the parliamentary party leaders of National Assembly over Swat operation, saying its ‘better late than never’. Talking to the journalists here at the Parliament House, the opposition member said this was a good decision taken by the government to take all the political parties onboard over the Swat operation.

However, he opined that the decision to convene an All Parties’ Conference (APC) was a bit late. In my view, this is a delayed decision and this moot of national significance should have been held even before the cabinet meeting, he added.

Over the issue of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), Elahi said this was the biggest displacement of the country’s history and to meet this huge challenge, the nation would have to revive its spirit to help the needy and affected which was expressed after the earthquake of 2005.

“The PML-Q has constituted its relief fund with initial amount of Rs. two million while the PML-Q provincial chief Amir Muqam is looking after the affairs at PML-Q relief camps established in NWFP,” he added.

Elahi urged the Uelma and religious scholars to work vigorously to promote the true teachings of Islam. He said the Ulema should also work for peace and launch joint efforts for the awareness of general public about the perpetrators who had badly damaged the image of Islam and had created law and order situation in Fata and Malakand division.

LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) President Ch. Shujaat Hussain has announced to set up a PML Relief Fund with an initial contribution of Rs 1 million, for the internally displaced persons (IDPs) of Swat and Malakand. The relief camp has been set up at the PML-Q’s central office in Islamabad. In a statement issued here on Friday, Shujaat urged party members and philanthropists to contribute generously for the noble cause.
He said the relief fund was aimed at providing immediate help to the IDPs who had been forced to leave their homes because of the security forces’ operations against the Taliban in the region. Shujaat expressed deep concern over the prevailing situation in Swat and condemned the Taliban who had forced 600,000 people to flee to various parts of the country.
