U-Turn by Nawaz exposed PML-N politics: Elahi

LAHORE: Challenging Sharif Brothers to hold transparent elections under the supervision of judiciary in PP-111 (Gujrat), President Pakistan Muslim League-Q (PML-Q) Punjab Chapter, Chaudhary Pervez Elahi has said that the u-turn taken by PML-N over reforms package showed their political ethics.

Talking to different leaders and delegations of his party, the former Punjab Chief Minister said that the rigging and attacks by workers of N-League on Assistant Women Presiding Officers and polling staff exposed the so-called high values of PML-N.

Chaudhary Pervez Elahi said that the U-Turn taken by PML-N over constitutional reforms after Gujrat Elections clearly exposed its hypocrisy and double standards.

He said that Sharif Brothers, before Gujrat by-elections tried to get support of PPP and soon after the issuance of the notification of results, deceived PPP.

Commenting on financial situation of the province, he said that the poor policies of Shahbaz Sharif plunged the province into further crisis and the overdraft of Rs. 27 billion obtained by Punjab from the State Bank of Pakistan reflected the bankruptcy of the province.

Shahbaz Sharif initiated firing on his house: Pervez Elahi

GUJRAT: Former Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervez Elahi has accused the Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif of initiating the firing on his house and the police remained silent spectator, adding, the people of Gujrat exposed the real fact of Sharif brothers.

Talking to media persons here on Thursday, he announced that we would take out protest demonstration and alleged that PML-N was doing politics of hypocrisy.

He said that Nawaz Sharif took u-turn after the Gujrat bye-elections and started criticizing the government, adding, no clash took place between the activists of PML-Q and PML-N.

He said that after carrying out massive rigging in the elections, now Shahbaz Sharif is initiating firing on their houses.

Earlier, addressing a press conference, he said Election Commission of Pakistan proved that PML-N has carried out massive rigging by stopping the results of by election in PP 111.

He said the PML-N pressurized the returning officer to announce elections results in his favor and on his denial to do so, he was made hostage by locking him in room but he managed to escape and informed the Election Commission of Pakistan about rigging in the by election.

The PML-Q central leader thanked the people of Gujrat for supporting his party and said that the people have unveiled Punjab Government’s rigging. He said that it was a befitting reply to the Punjab and Federal Government, adding that politics of PML-N Quaid Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif was based on hypocrisy and personal interests.

He said that the workers of PML-Q were threatened by Punjab Government, adding that the officials of special branch had harassed the poling agents and ladies workers of PML-Q. He said that PML-N changed its policy in afternoon after seeing its confirmed defeat and special branch’s officials ousted the ladies polling staff in ladies polling stations and stamped on ballet papers.

He said that Shahbaz Sharif had directed the government officials to even burnt the polling booth where they were failing to do something in their favor. He considered Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif responsible for all this events and said that CM Punjab was the enemy of people of Gujrat.

On this occasion PML-Q leader and candidate in by elections of PP 111 said that he challenged Punjab government to hold the elections again and he would win it. PML-Q leader Chaudhary Shifat Hussain was also present there.

PML-Q demands re-polling in PP-111

LAHORE - PML-Q Secretary General Punjab Ch Zaheer-ud-Din has demanded re-polling in PP-111 under the supervision of Rangers, as the people of Gujrat have rejected the ‘tampered’ results of the by-polls in the constituency.
Ch Zaheer, who was also Leader of the Opposition in Punjab Assembly, expressed these views while talking to newsmen at Opposition Chambers on Friday.
He said firing incidents and torture on women in Gujrat was carried out on the directives of chief minister Punjab and Sardar Zulfikar Khosa and the PML-Q would register cases against both of them, Ch Zaheer added.
He said the provincial government had committed first crime by rigging the PP-111 by-polls and committed another crime by imposing Section 144 in Gujrat in a bid to contain the supporters of PML-Q from protesting against the immoral provincial government.
He said that issues of rigging in Gujrat by-polls and torture on women would be raised in the coming session of Punjab Assembly. He said PML-N has always practised the politics of rigging and the masses have seen their real face in PP-111.
Meanwhile, PML-Q women members of provincial assembly including Seemal Kamran, Amna Ulfat, Samina Khawar Hayat, Majida Zaidi, Dr Samaya Amjad and leaders Yousuf Ahad Malik, Akram Ch and party workers taken out a protest rally against the alleged rigging of PML-N in PP-111 by-polls.


Shahbaz-led govt all set to rig Gujrat by-polls’

LAHORE: The Punjab government, at the behest of the chief minister, has set the stage for ‘massive rigging’ in the Gujrat by-elections and the Election Commission (EC) of Pakistan is also partially involved in the manipulation, Opposition Leader in Punjab Assembly Chaudhry Zaheeruddin said on Sunday. Addressing a press conference, Zaheer – who is also the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid general secretary – said the EC at one hand had imposed restrictions on transfers and postings, while it had kept its’ ‘eyes closed’ to the planned rigging at the other. He said the Punjab government had taken over the powers of the Gujrat district administration where local police had been ordered ‘not to perform’ its duties. Pervaiz terms Sharifs hypocrites

Pakistan Muslim League (Q) Senior Central Leader Ch Pervaiz Elahi has said that the Sharif brothers habitually retract from their statements and Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif’s contradiction of his statement about supporting Taliban was a clear proof of his hypocritical politics.

Addressing a gathering here on Tuesday, he claimed that they used to praise Zardari when in need and afterwards they started finding faults with him. He said they were silent these days because they wanted to grab PPP vote in Gujrat bye-polls.

He alleged that the incumbent rulers in Punjab did not think beyond Jati Umra and immediately after assuming power, they had withheld the entire development projects. He claimed that Shahbaz Sharif had diverted the development from remote areas of Punjab towards Lahore.

He alleged that Shahbaz Sharif had earlier expressed his loyalty to Taliban leadership but now he was denying his statement, which was clearly shown by news channels. The gathering was also addressed by PML-Q candidate Mian Imran Masud

NPIW workers end protest as govt accepts demands

FIR against Marvi lodged over leading NPIW protest
LAHORE: The National Programme for Improvement of Watercourses (NPIW) workers – led by Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) leader Marvi Memon – ended their seven-day long protest and sit-in in front of Karachi Press Club after the Sindh government assured the protesters that it will regularise 1,547 temporary NPIW employees, a private news channel reported on Thursday.

The PML-Q leader said that Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani had assured her that the NPIW employees would be confirmed.

A case had been registered against Marvi for leading the protest and sit-in on a complaint filed by the Artillery Medaan Police station house officer (SHO).

Earlier, she told the channel that she had
been informed about
the registration of the first information report (FIR) against her, but she would only call-off the protest once the workers’ demands had been fulfilled, the PML-Q leader had said.


Opp asks CM to resign
OPPOSITION Leader in Punjab Assembly Chaudhry Zaheer on Friday demanded resignation from Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif, alleging that the CM had lost the mandate due to his inefficiency.

Addressing a press conference along with female parliamentarian Amina Ulfat, he expressed his dissatisfaction over the technical committee report on Punjab Law Minister Rana Sana’s plaza. He said the directions should be issued to the official committee for immediately presenting its report on the legal or illegal status of the plaza.

Zaheer said police stations were the nurseries for criminals while the province was the centre of human rights violations. He asked the CM that what kind of action had been initiated against the MPA who supervised torture of his opponents.

He demanded the Punjab government ensure the recovery of the kidnapped child from Jhelum within 24 hours while arresting the kidnappers.






Police brutality in Punjab: Opp leader demands CM’s resignation

LAHORE: Leader of Opposition in Punjab Assembly Chaudhry Zaheeruddin on Friday demanded Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Shahbaz Sharif to resign from office over the ‘brutal’ police torture of citizens across the province.

Zaheer, while addressing a press conference at the Opposition Leader’s Chamber at Punjab Assembly premises, demanded Shahbaz to apologise to the people of Punjab for his ‘negligence and bad governance’. He also demanded that the Punjab Assembly be called into session over the law and order situation of the province.

Zaheer said police stations in Punjab had become the “nursery of crimes” and the province had become a hub of “inhumane activities” under the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz-led government. He said human right violations had increased manifold in the province due to the government’s ‘loose grip’ over administrative matters. The opposition leader also urged the CM to take action against PML-N Member of Provincial Assembly (MPA) Shahid Bhatti who was present at the scene when police officers tortured some citizens in Chiniot.

Zaheer also alleged that all PML-N members were involved in different crimes and some of them had already been exposed in electricity and credit card scams. Shahbaz should “recheck” his party members’ political-cum-ethical credibility, he added.

Talking about Law Minister Rana Sanaullah’s illegal plaza, he said he was not satisfied with the report of the technical committee constituted by the government on the matter. Opp leader threatens to quit Sanaullah plaza probe

* Zaheeruddin accuses Punjab govt of not cooperating with investigation
* Says he will announce final decision today

LAHORE: Punjab Opposition Leader Chaudhry Zaheeruddin on Thursday warned that he would quit the parliamentary committee constituted to probe rana Sanaullah’s ‘illegal plaza’ if the Punjab government did not cooperate with him in establishing the facts of the case.

Zaheeruddin, who is head of the House fact-finding committee, told the media on his visit to the plaza that the government’s attitude towards the case was “not serious”.

Final decision: Vowing to reveal the facts about Sanaullah’s allegedly illegal high-rise, he said he would hold a meeting of the fact-finding committee on March 5 (today) at his chambers in the Punjab Assembly’s building and would make a final decision about leaving the committee.

Non-serious attitude: He said, “The Shahbaz government is not cooperating on the issue. Three weeks have gone by and I still haven’t received the names of the committee members... Shahbaz had declared in the House that all the committee members would be answerable to him about the legality or illegality of Sanaullah’s plaza, but none of them have contacted me in this regard.” The opposition leader also criticised committee members for failing to provide any facts or records regarding the case.

He also announced that the fact-finding committee would soon present all the facts and records it has collected so far before the media.

PML-Q withdraws candidate in JI’s favour

LAHORE, Feb 28: The Pakistan Muslim League-Q and the Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) have decided to go together on national issues and, as a sign of this unanimity, the QLeague has withdrawn its nominee for NA-123 by-polls in favour of JI’s Hafiz Salman Butt.

A decision to the effect was taken in a meeting between leaders of both the parties.

The PML-Q side was led by former chief minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, opposition leader in Punjab Assembly Chaudhry Zaheeruddin, Moonis Elahi and Senator Kamil Ali Agha while Liaquat Baloch, Dr Waseem Akhtar, Amirul Azeem and Butt represented the JI.

Exchanging views on various national issues, including by-polls in NA-123, both the sides decided to adopt a joint line of action in future “in the larger interest of the masses”.

Keeping in view seniority of Butt, the PML-Q decided to withdraw its candidate Tahir Siddiq from the constituency.

A meeting of the elders of both the parties would be held at Muslim League House on Tuesday (tomorrow) to take into confidence workers of the PML-Q.
