NPIW workers end protest as govt accepts demands

FIR against Marvi lodged over leading NPIW protest
LAHORE: The National Programme for Improvement of Watercourses (NPIW) workers – led by Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) leader Marvi Memon – ended their seven-day long protest and sit-in in front of Karachi Press Club after the Sindh government assured the protesters that it will regularise 1,547 temporary NPIW employees, a private news channel reported on Thursday.

The PML-Q leader said that Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani had assured her that the NPIW employees would be confirmed.

A case had been registered against Marvi for leading the protest and sit-in on a complaint filed by the Artillery Medaan Police station house officer (SHO).

Earlier, she told the channel that she had
been informed about
the registration of the first information report (FIR) against her, but she would only call-off the protest once the workers’ demands had been fulfilled, the PML-Q leader had said.
