Islamabad (September 7,2011) Senior Pakistan Muslim League leader and senior federal minister for industries and defence production, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi in a high level meeting of National Fertiliser Marketing held in Islamabad today has ordered an immediate supply of 100,000 fertiliser bags to plug the shortage of urea in Sind. The meeting participants included Sind finance minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, MD NFML Tariq Shafee, Coordinator G.M.Sikandar and federal secretary for industries Aziz Ahmad Bilour. The senior federal minister was apprised of the devastation caused by recent rains and floods in Sind. He was told that while 2.2 million acres of standing crops were inundated in Sind the land on the right of Indus river had escaped the water onslaught and the rice crop in that area desperately required a substantial supply of fertilisers.
Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi expressed his complete commitment to the fertiliser requirements of Sind and directed the concerned officials to do their utmost for restoration and further enhancement of the agricultural productivity of the country’s second largest province. He further directed the concerned officials to ensure timely supply of fertilisers for Rabi crop and sale of urea strictly on announced rates in Sind.
Later in the day, senior federal minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi held a meeting with federal petroleum minister Dr.Asim Hussain and the chairman National Assembly standing committee on petroleum Sardar Talib Nakai. In the meeting the existing status of natural gas supply to the country’s fertiliser industry was discussed at length. The senior federal minister on the occasion said that the current fuel shortage had strongly hampered Punjab’s industrial sector and urged for improved supply of fuel to the country’s largest province to rescue its fast diminishing industries. The federal petroleum minister assured Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi of compliance to his demand.
